A decade ago, the Dominican government stripped citizenship from Haitians born in the Dominican Republic, creating a large stateless population out of Haitians who grew up in the DR. The continuing crisis of gang violence in Haiti has also created a flood of immigration into the DR and the government has a strict deportation policy. As a result, many Haitians live in poverty and fear, unable to get jobs or send their children to school, and afraid even to enter the Dominican medical system. DMM and our partners are paving a road and offering hope for them to exit out of extreme poverty.
